Black Friday weekend 2020 did not disappoint. With the uncertainty of this year, we were unsure how busy the weekend would be; however, the statistics speak for themselves. We managed to process 4675 orders across our two sites over the weekend alone, beating last year’s sales by 880 orders a 20% rise. This consisted of 22,292 picks our warehouse team processed, an incredible amount.
WHAT ARE BLACK FRIDAY AND CYBER MONDAY?
What once was an American tradition of sales the day after Thanksgiving to mark the start of the holiday shopping season has now snowballed into massive retail discounts across a whole weekend and in some cases the whole of November! In recent years, it has become an online shopping phenomenon that online businesses can no longer afford to miss out on.
Even offering small discounts across your website can get you involved.
Cyber Monday has always been an online affair, still falling the Monday after Black Friday, it was introduced to help smaller retailers to compete with the more prominent names.
However, as guessed, they soon joined in on the weekend-long retail frenzy. It is no wonder we are now unable to differentiate the difference between the two dates, with some companies having week-long and even month-long sales!
HOW 2020 BLACK FRIDAY WEEKEND IS DIFFERENT TO PREVIOUS YEARS
This year’s sales are almost entirely online. In-store shopping is extremely limited due to COVID-19 restrictions and general anxiety about gathering in large crowds, which has forced most stores to move their sales online. You can shop deals, and compare prices from the comfort of your own home, giving people a chance to pick up some more deals than when they are shopping in-store.
Being in the third-party logistics industry, we are greatly affected by the weekend deals as our customers provide sales for their customers on their various sale platforms for the weekend-long event. This year saw a rise in sales from the start of November rising considerably through Cyber Monday and Tuesday the following week. This is set to continue through for the lead up to Christmas following previous years trend.
